A Good Word

Everyday, each one of us meet not just people but the difficulties and life situations they find themselves in. Listening to their stories I have found one of the best ways I can help them is to speak a good word in season. This means being sensitive to the person and their life and also sensitive to the voice of Holy Spirit.

The Book of wise sayings says;

Proverbs 15:23 A man has joy by the answer of his mouth,
And a word spoken in due season, how good it is!  NKJV

A good word can change a persons outlook, their perception on their situation especially if you can get them to see things from a heavenly perspective.

A good friend of mine Dr Bob Nicholls says that whenever we read the Bible we should do three things.

  • Read it slowly
  • Read it in the moment,
  • See our lives from Gods perspective.

Good advice! I have found that if I can encourage someone to embrace, believe and put their hope in the Word of God, which is always a good word sown in season their lives and situations can be changed  immediately. Give someone today a good word in season and be a blessing to them.

God made everything Very Good

This morning I took the time to read Genesis 1 and to remind myself just how great God is. Verse 31 finishes by saying God saw everything He had made and it was very good!

Genesis 1:31
31 Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. NKJV

This morning I rose at 5.30 am with the sun shining brightly. The hillside and trees are in full bloom and the God that I worship created it all. Amazing! It reminds me that God is all powerful and whatever He does is always very good. He never made anything bad.

Sadly sin disfigures so much of our wonderful world. Today I will go about my day conscious that God is present and powerful.

I have determined that I will enjoy life and greet every person and circumstance with the knowledge that God has made everything very good. I will appreciate and enjoy all that my God has made.

Oh by the way I had a good sleep last night.

Have a great day.

A Good Nights Sleep

I am guessing you are just like me and need to have a good nights sleep. Sadly one of the plagues of modern life is insomnia. I have to admit it that I don’t always enjoy a good nights sleep, however the Word of God tells me:

Psalms 4:8
8 I will both lie down in peace, and sleep;
For You alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety. NKJV

Proverbs 3:24
24 When you lie down, you will not be afraid;
Yes, you will lie down and your sleep will be sweet. NKJV

Sweet sleep, sound really good. I am going to take God at His Word and seek His face for a good nights sleep. I have made a list things that I need to stop doing along with things I do need to do.

Late night drinks none after say 7.00 pm.

Procrastination, make sure I do what needs to be done today so I don’t wake up thinking about things I should have done.

Meditate on good things.

Pray and ask God for sweet sleep.

Forgive anyone I need to forgive.

That is my list so far. If you should have any tips I would welcome your comments

Have a great day.

Good seed

Today I found myself talking to people about what has been called ‘The Law of Sowing and Reaping’ It is vital that we learn from our past and have the ability to see where we have planted bad seeds which have brought forth a bad harvest and also where we have planted good seed and brought forth a good harvest. It is not rocket science, yet so many people I come across fail to see the connection.

Galatians 6:7-9

7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. 8 For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. 9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.NKJV

Genesis 8:22

22 “While the earth remains,
Seed-time and harvest,
Cold and heat,
Winter and summer,
And day and night
Shall not cease.” NKJV

Scripture is so clear on this matter. Be careful what you sow it always has a harvest. Make sure you so only good seed.

Good Friends

I have just got back after spending time at our R.I.M. conference with my friends in Manchester. Friendship is forged over a period of time. It means that on the sacred journey of life you have gone through many things together that has served to deepen and strengthen your friendships.

Many people commented on the bond between the speakers. It would seem the one thing that they loved to see was how the five of us got on so well together. It was very obvious that there is no competitiveness or someone trying to glow in the dark, rather an appreciation of their uniqueness and individual gifting which dovetailed into one another.

Thank you Lord for genuine friends.

Have a great day

Sense of wonder

It is my opinion that many of us we have lost the sense of wonder. The demands and speed of life have caused us to loose sight of the wonderful things that God has created. Jut recently Margaret called to me to come and look at a rainbow in the sky. There it was, a great big arch, full of deep colours. I was pleased that we captured that moment together and to be reminded of God’s promise to mankind. Later that day I held Luke and Jacob, our latest addition of grandchildren. Just looking at their tiny fingers and toes caused me to remembered that ‘we are fearfully and wonderfully made’.

I have decided to try and take life much slower and to take time to look again and wonder at God’s creation. To appreciate the smell of a flower, the morning mist on the hillside, moonlight, and most of all my wonderful family.

I love the song ‘God of wonders beyond our Galaxy’

Take the time to stop and look at God’s creation and say ‘Thank you’

Have a great day

Good all the time

After saying goodbye to my friend David Fredriksz it was back to my old routine of pastoral life. David had ministered on Sunday morning on ‘The Church’ reminding us that as ‘called out ones’ we are to be a living expression of the Kingdom of heaven on planet earth. Sunday evening David shared how Simon was given a new name ‘Peter’. This was the start of a massive transformation in Peter’s life. I reflected on just how good God had been to me. I can identify so much with Peter, his faults and failures. I think if I had been God I would have given up on me a long time ago. God is faithful and true. He does not give up on people but continues to love them and as my dear friend Andrew reminds us, God keeps on kissing us until we kiss Him back. We hear so much about destiny today and I have come to the conclusion that our destiny is to life and to be loved.

God is good all the time no matter what our circumstance. Please Lord let me remember that you are always good and that you have called me to a destiny of life and love.

 Colossians 1:13
13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love,NKJV
